Seeing Sleep Differently

Unpacking What We’ve Been Taught About Sleep and “Good Babies" - for Parents and Professionals

From 47 Australian dollars
Virtual Event

Service Description

We’ve all inherited stories about how babies and toddlers “should” sleep, such as: • They need to learn to “self-settle” • Waking is a “problem” to fix • Comforting, like feeding or rocking, to sleep are "negative sleep associations" But where did those ideas actually come from? And why do they still hold so much power, even when you are a big believer in a responsive approach to sleep? In this live masterclass (replay will be made available), Dr. Jessica Guy (child development PhD - sleep scientist, and neuro-affirming parent educator - takes you beneath the surface of modern baby-sleep advice to explore the invisible cultural scripts shaping how we think about sleep, soothing, and "good babies." You’ll learn: • The surprising origins of the sleep-training paradigm • How internalised sleep shame and cultural bias creep in to our parenting and professional advice without us even realising it. • How to build a conscious sleep lens grounded in connection, capacity, and care -- not control. This isn’t another wolf in sheep's clothing. It’s a chance to step outside the noise, question the assumptions we’ve absorbed, and begin to identify and understand how unconscious bias comes up for you - and how to start deprogramming it! You'll leave with: • A clearer understanding of where your sleep beliefs came from - More awareness of your unconscious biases and how they show up in your parenting or practice. • Tools to reframe “good sleep” through a relational, neuroaffirming lens. • Language to talk about sleep without shame, pressure, or behaviourist undertones. • Renewed confidence in your capability to show up as the parent you want/your child needs you to be, or in your professional skills to support parents and their babies and young children. Professional enrollment additionally includes: - CPD-style reflective workbook - Certificate of completion There are two ticketing options for this event: Parent/Caregiver or Professional. If you are simultaneously a parent and professional in the parenting space, please choose the ticket-type that best suits your situation and primary reason for attending. All ticket types include a replay of the masterclass that will be made available shortly after the live event is finished.
